[Tal'ait ya mahla nurha]
(It came out, beautiful light)

Egypt
Composed by Sayed Darwish

Tal3ait ya maHla nurha, shams ishshamuse
yalla bina nimla w-naHlib, laban iljamuse

ga3id 3a sagyi yimalli, ’asmar wa-Hlayway
3awaj iTagiyi ugalli, ghannilli ghinnayway

giltillu bi galbi ya khilli, yasmar ya-Hlayway
gaddamli warda ugalli, Halway ya 3aruse

shuft iljamil il3asmar wagif 3alminay
wiHalawtu zay ilsukkar, bidu yasminay

wijamal ilHalu il asmar, wallah lijnaynay
tafatalil wigalli ya marmar, Halway ya 3arusay
It rose up, what a beautiful light it has! The sunny sun!
Come on, let's take our fill, and go milk the buffalo!

He's sitting by the waterwheel, suntanned and sweet.
He tilted his cap, and asked me to sing him a song.

I told him secretly, I would, oh sweet suntanned boy,
He offered me a rose and said, oh beautiful bride.

The sweet suntanned fellow is standing by the harbor
His sweetness is like sugar, and a jasmine in his hand.

His dark sweet beauty truly drove us insane,
He turned to me and said, oh sweet alabaster bride.
